Black Book Luxe Travels: Frenchman's Cove Beach, Jamaica

In the most sensationally luscious and rich area of Jamaica lies a beautiful lagoon-style beach, once a secluded retreat exclusively for celebrities. This slice of paradise goes by the name of Frenchman's Cove, and is truly one of nature's most unique hidden gems.

Perfectly nestled between the Blue Mountains and the Caribbean Sea, it is a place where river meets ocean; a calm, cold-water stream meets the warm, gentle waves of a crystal clear sea. With swings lining the river, and a vibrant
backdrop of palm trees and forestry, pure white sands and azure waters, it is nature at its very best!

You can enjoy it with an elaborate, tropical cocktail in-hand, as there is bar service directly on the beach! And it is conveniently located just east of the region's capital city, Port Antonio, where there is plenty of luxurious places to rest and rejuvenate.

BEST LUXURY STAY
Dramatically sleek and wildly sophisticated, the Trident Hotel looks like it is come straight out of a movie. Its clean, modern and understated aesthetic will thrill the jet-set style-seekers, as well as the artistic-minded, design-conscious. There are eleven all-white waterfront villas, set on the breathtaking cliffs of Port Antonio. Each features a large outdoor deck and pool; spacious interiors are adorned with accent pieces and hand-selected artwork is blended with clean, light furnishings; and best of all, there's an infinity pool at the front of the property for that truly tropical, resort feel. For a luxury taste of modern Caribbean lifestyle, this is your place!

FINEST DINING EXPERIENCE
If you are staying at Trident, there is of course the in-house dining. For a speakeasy-style throwback, head to Mike's Supper Club, where you will be accompanied by the music of a Ferrari-red grand piano, and the occasional odd celeb guest! Or if you are looking for something a little more toned down, head to Port Antonio's number one restaurant, Mille Fleurs. With exquisitely homemade dishes, using local and seasonal produce, the restaurant offers romantic dining in an exceptional location. Its veranda bar looks out over the jungle and the ocean, so head there for an incredibly photogenic sunset! Note,
you must book 24 hours in advance!

MOST ICONIC ACTIVITIES
While you’re in Port Antonio, why not head up to the Blue Mountains on a scenic day tour. These are easily organised from your accommodation, and offer a contrast to the beach-bathing of Frenchman’s Cove. For some cultural immersion, head to Musgrave Market on West Street, in the “heartbeat of Port Antonio”. There, you’ll find local artisan-crafted items; perfect souvenirs from your luxury escape. Or finally, for the real adventurous souls, bamboo rafting on the Rio Grande is one of the most iconic activities in the area. Spend 3 unforgettable hours exploring the local landscape on the peaceful waters of the river.

HOW TO GET THERE

Getting to Frenchman's Cove Beach is simple if you are staying in Port Antonio; simply catch a taxi and it is about a 15 minute drive, or 10 minutes from Trident! Getting to Port Antonio itself is a little more difficult, but that's what makes it all the more beautiful; it's still got that charming real Jamaican feel about it. The only way by air is to catch a flight from Kingston to Montenego Bay, and then aconnecting flight to Port Antonio.

Frenchman's Cove Beach is a tropical paradise not matched anywhere else in the world; the kind of place where you lose track of time.
